400 Ashmun street has been the fixture for fine jewelry in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, an anchor for downtown business in Sault Ste. Marie for 119 years. Since 2016, now Monocle Jewelers has been under ownership by Ryan Morley a Sault native. This historic building was originally constructed and first opened as Jean’s Jewelry, boasting customer black walnut cases and elegant architecture that remains part of its luster and beauty, owned by the same Jean family for 98 years before being purchased by Ryan’s mother. Erika Haapala-Frechette in 1999. She was the sole owner of the then renamed Ryan’s Jewelry for nearly 17 years and continued tradition by providing the Sault with all fine jewelry services and premiere jewelry. The store continues to be a success as part of Ryan’s legacy. He now offers, in addition to the essential jewelry services and quality product, many new items such as Monocle Jewelers exclusive Upper Peninsula jewelry collection and he also designs and repurposes new pieces by giving new life to family heirlooms. It has to be said that jewelry and all its facets are truly on of Ryan’s passions and upon speaking with him or seeing his creations you will know you are in the company of a professional who genuinely cares about you and especially your jewelry!
